Enchanting

I started to skip this episode because I thought it was another attempt at a light comedic episode that is usually dumb silliness, but since Jesus was the lead for a change, I thought I'd try it. Boy was I surprised; this episode was nothing like I thought it would be. The guest actress's performance was restrained and charming in its simplicity--I had a tear in my eye at the end.

Hey Soos?!
sandyclaus-0457119 April 2024
Wow, even though this was made pre-pc, I can't believe they refer to Jesus as Hey Soos!! That is very shocking to me, even though I'm not always pc! I didn't realize until today that they spelled his name as Hey Soos!

The storyline I felt was very beautiful and Myoshi Umeki did a superb job portraying a Japanese geisha. I was ready to find fault with this episode as the later shows were beginning to be not as good as the previous ones. I'm not a very big fan of this show...for several reasons which has no bearing on this review...but I'm glad I continued to finish watching it as it turned out to be very good.

Sometimes a charming Rawhide episode doesn't work for me, but.......
hmoika8 September 2018
This episode is just exquisite. As I scanned the information about this episode on IMDb, I was heartened when I saw that Charles Larson was the writer and Ted Post the director.

However, I had no way of knowing just how splendid this episode was going to be. It was ...... captivating ......... sweet ......... warm ....... adjectives that don't always fit Rawhide very well. In this case, they melded to form a story that was just wonderful.

The only real complaint I have......well, it isn't a complaint really (okay, maybe it is); but throughout the 6th season, it seems to me that Eric Fleming has been doing more than bit of grousing about everything under the sun. Sure, I know he's the trail boss, and he's got to stick to his guns to keep the drovers in line. Maybe it's because he seems to have less to do on most of the 6th season episodes; and so, when he chimes in, it's usually in a complaining vein. I can't put my finger on it, but his performances this season start to grate on me. He's just not quite the same Gil Favor.......in my opinion anyway.

Nevertheless, I don't want to end this review on a negative note. This episode of Rawhide deserves 10 stars!

The great catfish
bkoganbing3 September 2016
You never know what you'll find on the trail. Robert Cabal in chasing a wild stallion gets thrown from his horse, after said stallion injures Clint Eastwood. When he wakes up he finds he's being ministered to by Miyoshi Umeki playing a Japanese geisha girl.

Pretty soon the whole trail gang from Eric Fleming on down is being pampered by Umeki. Eastwood has injured his back she provides some healing treatments.

But the problems come when some passing Kiowas mistake the geisha girl for some mythical princess and want to take her away.

Miyoshi Umeki is wonderful in the role of the geisha who even tames the savage Kiowa with her knowledge and use of 'the great catfish'. Now you may ask what it is, it is her culture's description of a natural phenomenon she uses to help out the trail herd.

Think of Bing Crosby in A Connecticut Yankee and that eclipse. This is along the same lines.
