It's always been a source of fascination for me that the son of John Barrymore when he did do roles did either rebel type roles or people who are dangerous because they're not all quite there. Totally unlike what his legendary father did. Such a role is what he plays here in this Rawhide story.
John Ireland who was a regular on Rawhide in that last truncated season brings in young Barrymore to camp and persuades a reluctant Clint Eastwood to hire him. Trouble follows in the person of Douglas Kennedy and a pair of fast guns who want to lynch Barrymore. Again and reluctantly Eastwood takes a stand for law and order and tells Kennedy to bring back a sheriff and a warrant.
With what follows you really wonder if Barrymore is worth the trouble. Another quirky performance from John Drew Barrymore. Not too many of another kind.
