- Ben Tully: You know, people in this town don't need guns! Now I proved that to 'em... and now I sound like an old man trying to convince himself. You know, son, I'm a newspaper man. I've travelled all over this country and seen every kind of violence and I know that if you give a man a club, well, he'll swing it. Now you take that club away from him, he'll learn how to argue. He just doesn't need the club anymore.
- Johnny Yuma: Are you sure?
- Ben Tully: Well... I was.
- Walt Ashby: [to Ted] I never told anyone about this debt. If only you had come to me before.
- Johnny Yuma: He had a gun... and with a gun people shoot first and talk later.
- Maddox - Town Councilman: You're lookin' at this wrong. If you want that gun just sit tight.
- Walt Ashby: What do you mean?
- Maddox - Town Councilman: I mean somebody's got it and he intends to use it real soon. Well, figure it out! A man don't take a gun unless he needs it. Maybe he'll wait until it gets dark - and remember this... he's got the only gun in town.
- MacDonald - Town Councilman: In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
- Walt Ashby: You're not making it any easier, Ben.
- Ben Tully: I don't plan to! Look, one gun was bad enough - then you had to have yours and now everybody in town is strapping on their holsters.
- Walt Ashby: It couldn't be helped. A man has a right to protect himself! We told you we'd give the guns back.
- Ben Tully: Will you... or will you just get used to them again?
