Jack Elam and Ray Stricklyn
kevinolzak8 August 2016
"Helping Hand" finds Johnny Yuma literally caught between a rock and a hard place, a family feud in which he only sought to replenish his water supply. Carl Blaine (Ray Stricklyn) and younger brother Dave (Lee Erickson) have tracked their Uncle Luce (Jack Elam, previously seen in "Angry Town") and cousin Web (Eddie Ryder) for many days, the old man successfully robbing a bank and getting his own brother killed. Yuma realizes too late that Uncle Luce guards the only watering hole for 50 miles, and figures to hold out for his nephews to die of thirst without much trouble. The presence of the crafty rebel proves to be invaluable to the young Blaines, but detrimental to their soulless uncle. Jack Elam was always a welcome sight in any Western, seen here in typical villainous mode.

Johnny Yuma meets the nefarious Jack Elam, at the only water hole within 50 miles.

Jack Elam is at his absolute best in "The Helping Hand".

After robbing a bank and getting his brother killed, "Uncle Luce" (actor Jack Elam) is trapped with his simple minded son Web (actor Eddie Ryder), at the only water hole within 50 miles. Uncle Luce and Cousin Web are in a family-feud shootout standoff with nephews Carl and Dave Blaine (actors Ray Stricklyn and Lee Erickson, respectively).

Uncle Luce has the only water, superior firepower, and a natural rock canyon that shields him and Web from the gunfire of the nephews. Uncle Luce also holds all the money from the bank robbery.

Johnny Yuma arrives, intending to water his horse and fill his canteen. After being accosted at gunpoint by the nephews, The Rebel later comes under fire from Uncle Luce.

Can Johnny outwit Uncle Luce, to get the water that he (and nephews Carl and Dave) need? What will the nephews do if they overpower Uncle Luce, and get the money from the bank robbery?

An exciting episode of "The Rebel", with lots of gunfire, and great acting by all players. I rate "Helping Hand" 10 stars.
