The "Tongue Tied" musical number evolved from a brief gag, to a full-blown song and dance sequence. Danny John-Jules (credited as "Cat") released his own version of the song in 1993. It reached #17 on the UK charts. It is also the first and only musical number by Howard Goodall to reach the Top 20 of the UK Top 40 Music Charts.
Charles Augins, who guest starred as Queeg in the second series, also choreographed the "Tongue Tied" dance, as well as the Cat's dance with Blue Midget in Back in the Red: Part 3 (1999) in the eighth series.
The Cat breaks the fourth wall when he first discovers The Dog, delivering several of his lines directly to the camera.
For time reasons, the episode was shown without its opening credit sequence, and was originally shown with no episode titles at all, although the introduction sequence would later be added in the remastered version. This is the only episode to not have its title appear.
Chris Barrie later went on record at the Manchester Comicon 2014 that he didn't enjoy doing the opening Tongue Tied musical intro and stated that Craig Charles and himself are not great dancers and that he doesn't remember much about it.
