- A mail pod arrives on Red Dwarf containing only one envelope addressed to Kryten's leaseholders. The envelope contains a video recording from Kryten's manufacturers, Divadroid International, Kryten is due to be replaced and is instructed to pack his belongings and dismantle himself. Lister sees Kryten while he's packing up, Kryten isn't upset about death as he's programmed to believe in an afterlife for synthetics called Silicon Heaven.
Lister cannot believe that Kryten believes such things, Rimmer assures him that everyone is entitled to their beliefs. Lister wants to give Kryten a big farewell party, he assembles a domestic build-it-yourself droid modeled after Marilyn Monroe for the party, Kryten is sent an invitation and a tuxedo and goes to the officer's club where everyone is waiting. They give him gifts and Holly has prepared a potent drink, the Marilyn Monroe droid is a bit faulty but Kryten is still grateful, sometime later everyone is drunk and they share personal stories, Rimmer tells of his first French kiss, with a shocking conclusion. Lister brings up his childhood, he was abandoned as a baby. They retire to the quarters and sleep, Kryten rolls his head onto the remote control playing the rest of the video, detailing his replacement, Hudson-10, the latest upgrade.
Everyone awakens with hangovers, Kryten realizes he had fun for the first time in his existence the night before, Lister asks if they can prevent his shut-down, Kryten says he's not shutting down automatically, he has to do it or the replacement will, this is the first the others hear of an impending replacement and they choose to stand by Kryten, Holly warns the others of the Hudson's arrival, they head to the landing gantry with weapons.
They intend to send him off peacefully or fight, until they see what he looks like, a towering figure with a shotgun in hand. Hudson is intent on going through the others to get Kryten, Kryten assures them he's not programmed to harm organics. Rimmer steps forward with bravado, Hudson scans the humans in front and declares them all viable targets, he opens fire on them.
Kryten takes Cat's gun and presses the wrong button which dismantles the weapon, Hudson grabs him by the throat and pins him to the wall, with the final message "See you in Silicon Heaven." Kryten says there's no such place, Hudson shuts down with the realization that Silicon Heaven does not exist. Kryten informs the others he was lying.
