Featured review
One of the weaker episodes.
In a rare disappointing story, a horse trader rides into North Fork with a smart little trick that he uses against buyers. It seems that Colonel Bourbon has a slick trade and gets people to buy a nice looking horse only to have them return the horse when they find it may have an injury. But it is hard to prove when the injury occurred so the good Colonel gives half the money back to the buyer in a sign of good faith. But what has really happened is that Colonel has inserted a tack into the horse's hoof and when the horse is returned he pulls the tack and the horse is fine for the next buyer.
Here is when the story gets strange. There is a horse that has been stolen and the owner is offering a reward. Two rides come into town with obvious knowledge of Colonel Bourbon's tactics and knows he has the stolen horse. But the Colonel has already sold the horse and now is the property of Lucas McCain. This is not going to stop the two men from getting the horse.
After so many great shows, this script just did not have much excitement. The entire situation just was not interesting and stirred little emotion. They did throw-in some humor but it could not save this episode from being dry. The first episode, in a long time, that did not live up to the series standards.
