£125,000 of gold bullion is stolen from The RMS Oceanic, which is on a world record breaking attempt, accused is The Purser, Mr Horrocks, who turns Detective, in a bid to find the culprit, and save his job.
The first thing I want to address, the production values, when I saw this was going to be set on board a ship, I feared the worst, but in fairness it looks pretty good, with a good atmosphere and some pretty great costumes.
The story itself, on paper I imagine this would be quite good, an intriguing read, the realisation however, for me, was a little bit flat.
Considering it's a race against the clock, it's just a little bit on the slow side, it just lacks any sort of urgency, they amble through proceedings. It's an amiable enough mystery though, intriguing enough, with an interesting conclusion.
Ronald Fraser was excellent as Horrocks I thought, lovely actor, who makes the prime suspect and Detective quite sincere, believable and certainly very likeable. Jean Marsh added a touch of quality too.
I learned what specie was as a result of watching this, seems to be a nautical term for paper money.
6/10.
