Cromm Cruac

It is a return to Celtic folk horror with shades of The Wicker Man.

It did not take me long to figure out that with all that hammy cackling. Richard O'Brien returns as the sinister sorcerer Gulnar.

He is seeking revenge for the death of Owen of Clun. He uses his powers of enchantment on Much. He falls into a forester's animal trap while out deer hunting.

Robin and the Merries take an injured Much into Wickham but they get lost in Sherwood Forest. They meet a stranger who takes them to the small village of Cromm Cruac.

The Merries have never heard of it and Friar Tuck fears going there. Instead he and Marion go to his previous abbey so he can find out more of this Cromm Cruac.

Robin and the Merries enjoy the hospitality of the villagers. It has lots of food. Yet Robin fears that there is something wrong. Will sees a figure that reminds him of his dead wife and there are no children in the village.

Cromm Cruac hides devilish secret and Friar Tuck needs to get there quickly once he finds out more about it.

The episode is rather edgy and just a little camp thanks to O'Brien's performance. After all this was initially broadcast to a family audience. It might be bonkers but it is fun.
