"The Rookies" From Out of the Darkness (TV Episode 1976) Poster

Georg Stanford Brown: Officer Terry Webster

Quotes

  • Amy Kennedy : [Terry is reminiscing about when he first met Amy, a blind musician. In his thoughts, they are walking along the beach pier, holding hands, then he puts his arm around her. They stop walking for a moment, and face out toward the water]  Is it the same sea you remember?

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry is looking out at the horizon]  Mmmm hmmm... .better.

Amy Kennedy : [Amy puts her hands on the railing, facing the water]  Smooth today... not a lot of whitecaps, and very grey. Except, there's a little band of silver right on the horizon.

[Amy smiles and faces toward Terry. She gestures toward the horizon with her left hand]

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry looks intently at Amy]  Are you peeking?

Amy Kennedy : [Amy smiles, turns toward Terry]  No... I can feel the wind, though, and hear the breakers. And I remember colours mostly. Colours and flowers... sunsets...

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry is still gazing intently at Amy, with questioning eyes]  How'd you lose your sight?

Amy Kennedy : [Amy smiles wistfully at Terry, before replying to his question]  I was 16. I was on my way to music school and I developed a disease that gradually weakens the optic nerve. One day, the lights went out. My dad thought for a couple of years that there might be an operation, you know, but we gave up hope finally, and I'm learning to live with it. It's not so bad... I study Braille and I've got pretty good internal radar to get around.

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry is listening to Amy, and studying her intently. He smiles]  What about your music?

Amy Kennedy : You've been talking to my father.

Officer Terry Webster : Well, he's anxious that you should go on.

Amy Kennedy : [Amy smiles]  He's prejudiced... he thinks I'm talented. I don't know... he thinks I ought to get up from my tail and do something about it. You heard me play this afternoon... what do you think?

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry is rubbing his hands together; he doesn't directly answer Amy's question]  Mmmm... .

Amy Kennedy : [Amy smiles toward Terry]  Cops are all the same...

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry continues rubbing his hands together]  Mmmm hmmmmm

Amy Kennedy : [Amy smiles, then she turns her face toward Terry. She wants to "see" him]  Do you mind if I find out what you look like?

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry looks at Amy]  No.

Amy Kennedy : [Amy places her left hand on Terry's right shoulder. Then, she brings both hands up to Terry's face, gently touching his eyes, then the rest of his face. She brings her hands down, facing him directly]  If my glasses bother you, I can take them off.

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry shakes his head, smiling slightly]  They don't bother me.

Amy Kennedy : [Amy is facing toward Terry; she looks very serious]  I mean, they might be in the way in case you decide to kiss me.

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry gazes at Amy for a long moment, then he reaches over and gently removes her dark glasses. He sees her eyes finally, and looks into them]  You're very beautiful.

Amy Kennedy : [Amy touches Terry's face once more]  So are you.

[Terry leans down and kisses Amy passionately; she leaves her hand on his face. The scene is over, as Terry's flashback comes to an end]
