Gerald S. O'Loughlin: Lt. Ed Ryker

Quotes

  • Lt. Ed Ryker : [Officers Bell and Webster were escorting a high-profile prisoner, Al Stelman, into the precinct. Once inside, Lt Ryker meets up with them to find out how the transfer of the prisoner went]  How did it go?

Officer Terry Webster : [It's pouring rain outside and Officer Bell and Officer Webster are wearing rain slickers over their police uniforms. They are both carrying large rifles]  Smooth, no problems. Anything from Chris?

Lt. Ed Ryker : [Lt Ryker is walking over toward Mr Stelman as he answers Officer Webster's question]  He's right on schedule.

[He addresses Mr Stelman, who is brushing the rain off of his coat]

Lt. Ed Ryker : You look older than your picture.

Al Stelman : [He answers sarcastically]  Ah. When you get used to the good life, Lieutenant, it's hard to live down here in the sewer with your kind.

Lt. Ed Ryker : [Lt Ryker looks slightly amused as he replies to Mr Stelman's sarcasm, then he addresses Officer Bell]  Well, maybe there's something we can do to help. Bell, I want you to give Mr Stelman here our very best suite. The one with the view of the river.

Officer Bell : [Officer Bell takes Mr Stelman's arm as he answers Lt Ryker]  Right, Lieutenant. Come on.

[They walk away, followed by another uniformed officer]

Officer Terry Webster : [All this time, Officer Webster was standing back, observing this exchange without saying a word. He has a quizzical look on his face, as he steps forward to speak with Lt Ryker]  I've heard about him and his brother all my life. They're really high up there on the syndicate ladder, aren't they?

Lt. Ed Ryker : [Officer Webster, still holding the rifle, starts unbuttoning his rain slicker with one hand as they start walking slowly down the hallway]  Well, look at it this way, Webster. If... instead of hiding these two, the way we're doing prior to their trial tomorrow... If you and I actually captured the two of them, this is what would happen.

[Lt Ryker starts ticking off items one by one on his fingers to emphasize his point]

Lt. Ed Ryker : I would make Captain without taking an exam. You would be the first rookie Sergeant in the history of the police force, and the two of us would catch cold from the draft of going uphill so fast. Now, is that high enough up the ladder for you?

Officer Terry Webster : [Lt Ryker and Officer Webster stop walking for a moment]  That's high

[Officer Webster smiles and laughs as they each walk in a separate direction]
