Surprises!
marinucci2 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There's great writing in this one. The action surrounds a kidnapping of a teenage girl. William Windom, who I remember first from the TV series "The Farmer's Daughter" with Inger Stevens and later as a regular on "Murder, She Wrote," plays the kidnapper - and he is nasty. He's usually a good guy. Kitty Lester, who appeared as a singer on "Shindig!" and later had a recurring role on "Little House On the Prairie," has a small role as a maid. Gerald S. O'Loughlin and Kate Jackson both have key role in this. But the plot is full of some unpredictable twists. I'm not giving anything away but it's well worth a look.

We Learn Of Lt Ryker's Past
Jimmy_the_Gent411 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A rich girl is kidnapped and Lt Ryker seems very disturbed by it.

A very good episode for Ryker and Gerald S. O"Loughlin gives a fine performance. William Windom plays the wacko kidnapper and while he is usually an excellent actor he overdoes it a bit in this one. He provides some unintentional laughs as he performs a vaudeville routine in an abandoned theater where he is holding the girl. Ryker's story is more interesting and O'Loughlin has one of his best moments as he relates a story from his past to Jill. It seems Ryker once had a wife who died in childbirth, the baby, a daughter is given up for adoption back in 1953. Ryker finds out the kidnapped girl has the same birth date as his daughter. After a stakeout at a power plant, the kidnapper is shot by Ryker and the girl rescued. Ryker has a touching reunion but does not reveal anything to her or the adoptive parents. Only Jill knows the truth.
