The mentally unbalanced man "warns" each city he visits that unless they obey the Ten Commandments for 24 hours he will have to "sacrifice" one of their citizens.—dubchi
- Tod and Buz are in Dallas, Texas, working for an import retailer while they look forward to spending time with the "temporary amenities" of the executive secretaries attending a convention at the upscale hotel where they are staying. As they work at different parts of the company, Tod doesn't notice the exact time that Buz goes missing. In reality, Buz has been abducted at gunpoint by a man he has never seen calling himself John Farrington. Farrington says he has no qualms about killing Buz or himself in the process. His initial messages are imbued with fanaticism tinged with religious beliefs. Buz will eventually learn he was chosen somewhat at random as a representative of the city of Dallas. Farrington has informed the police, who in turn are supposed to alert local media outlets to get the news out, that the citizens of the city are to abide by the ten commandments for twenty-four hours, or else Buz will be sacrificed. Farrington provides proof to Buz that he has already done the same thing in six other cities, meaning six previous victims. With a gun constantly pointed at him, Buz believes his primary course of defense is to refute Farrington's arguments. After the requisite twenty-four hours, Tod informs the police of Buz's disappearance, the police who are aware of "Farrington". The police in the six other cities do not know who this man is, only that after he kills, he takes on the identity of the latest victim, meaning that Farrington is the name of the last victim in Cleveland. The one lead the DPD have is that there is an eyewitness who saw Buz leave with a man calling himself Farrington, which hopefully for Tod's best friend means that they can eventually track Farrington and Buz's location before Farrington carries out his next murder.—Huggo
