- Linc gets ready to judge a beauty contest, while Tod attempts to keep up with a tireless engineer.
- Tod and Linc, working in Minneapolis, Minnesota at a luxury hotel, are both amused and irritated victims of a female efficiency expert. She is a driven high-strung workaholic perfectionist with few social skills. Recognition of her regulated life and its flaws are something she has never noticed.—dubchi
- Linc has an auspicious entry into Minneapolis, Minnesota as he drives the Corvette, while Tod, dead to the world, catches up on his sleep in the passenger seat in preparation for his new job as Assistant in Public Relations at the Sheraton-Ritz Hotel. That incident leads to Linc being named the ninth judge at the upcoming Miss Downtown Minneapolis competition in conjunction with the city's annual Aquatennial celebrations. Despite the bevy of beautiful women clamoring to get his attention, Linc only has his sights on one, perhaps not the most beautiful or elegant, but the one whose life would change the most by being named the winner, that change which he has to determine if it is actually a good or bad thing. Meanwhile, Tod's first job is to liaise with Celli Brahms, who represents the company hired to conduct a noise assessment and plan for the hotel. Intellectual Celli is all business - almost like she is a machine - which is what she wants to project to the world, especially to her male dominated profession. That all business behavior includes stating that she will work around the clock for the first seventy-two hours, which Tod vows to match. Tod, who is attracted to her physically, tries to discover if there is a heart-beating, breathing human woman underneath that hard exterior, while he tries to overcome his delirium in his sleep deprived state. Celli may not be aware that the world finding what Tod is looking for from her may be more important for her own goals.—Huggo
