Roy, Dale, and Bullet are riding along near Indian Gap when Bullet sees something in a tree. Roy and Dale are curious about it until a shot from a .22 rifle rings out. The shooter/tree dweller is 10-year old Jiggers Riley. Roy and Dale confiscate the rifle and learn from him that he is an orphan being raised by his brutish Uncle Jasper, who is "nearby." Jiggers slips away from Roy and Dale but they are curious about what is going on at Indian Gap and why Jiggers is so afraid to be around people. Later, Roy investigates and finds an illegal gold mining operation being run by Uncle Jasper, his henchman Mace, and a few other no goods. They knock out Roy and tie him up. Jiggers slips Roy a pocketknife and he is able to escape and get back to town for help. It will be a tough job to get Jiggers out of there and best these nasty ruffians.
