Dr Tongue Meets Francis Ford Coppola
Jimmy_the_Gent44 October 2018
An amusing series of low key sketches.

Guy has a promo for the new daytime soap The Days Of The Week. Gene Shalit does a headache commercial, even though he is the cause of headaches.

We see the first episode of The Days Of Week, introducing most of the characters. It is shot and performed so much like a real soap at times you forget it's a comedy sketch. Catherine O'Hara plays Violet McKay, a rich woman awaiting the return of her long lost son Billy. Andrea Martin has the funniest moments as Mojo, Violet's dim witted maid. Eugene Levy plays Dr Eliot Sabian, who is treating cocky rock singer Clay Collins (Rick Moranis). Chief surgeon William Wainwright (John Candy) appears to have a shady deal with Rocco (Joe Flaherty) a low life thug.

Levy appears as Stan Kanter, host of a daytime talk show called Just For Fun. His guests are intellectuals like Alexander Solzhenitzan (Dave Thomas), Betty Friedan (Martin) and Aaron Copland (Flaherty). All Stan wants to ask is what women they find attractive.

Dr X (Thomas) is a black and white TV show, cross between a noir and a sci fi. Dr X has X Ray eyes and teams with his friend The Invisible Man to solve crimes. Tex and Edna Boil have another commercial but Tex walks off and shoots himself.

Then we get a clip from a new Francis Ford Coppola movie 3D Stake From The Heart with Dr Tongue and Woody Tobias Jr. O'Hara appears as Gilda Radner, a very good impression. Count Floyd then shows up to host a "Making Of" of the film, explaining Coppola (Moranis) had to remake his flop movie One From The Heart as a 3D horror movie. Count Floyd has some funny Entertainment Tonight style interviews with the director and cast. Edna Boil appears in a new commercial helped by her sister Mrs Prickley.

Rev Dan Ellsmire has a commercial where he asks for money for surprise grab bags. Edna has another commercial where she looks for a replacement for Tex.

Dave appears as new character Irv Goldfarb, a Jewish talk show host. His guest is a gung ho security expert (Moranis). Edna has a commercial with her new partner, a smarmy European Count (Flaherty).

Final scene is another Norman Gorman Sunrise Semester, where talks about New York apartment dwelling.
