Election Season On SCTV
Jimmy_the_Gent416 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The main story line concerns several elections taking place in Melonville.

Floyd and Earl are seen at election headquarters first. Vic Hedges is running for Mayor despite his criminal record. Mayor Shanks is running again despite being confined to the State Hospital. Libby Wolfson is running for City Council. Troy Soren (Martin Short) a flamboyant character is running for Board Of Education but better suited to a gossip columnist.

The Happy Wanders show is dedicated to the works of film composer John Williams. Yosh and Stan say that Williams was abandoned at birth and brought up in Leautonia. They do polka versions of Superman, Jaws and Star Wars.

Libby has her opponent on her show. He is Kennedy type politician named Robert Wellesly, and she becomes infatuated with him. He is played by good comic actor David Rasche, he later starred in the cult sitcom Sledge Hammer, in a parody of Dirty Harry movies.

Brock Linahan (Short) makes his debut with his talk show Stars In One. He is a know it all with a horrible research staff. His guest is R&B singer Linda Hopkins. She had a minor hit in the early 1960s called Shake A Hand, a duet with Jackie Wilson. She performs You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You and Brock asks her a bunch of questions that has nothing to do with her. It turns out his staff gave Miriam Hopkins bio by mistake.

There is a funny debate scene between Hedges and Shanks (on satellite from an ice bath in the hospital). It's done in a gymnasium where a basketball team is practicing.

Cheryl Kinsey talks about teenage sex while narrating an old 1950s film about dating.

Back at HQ, Earl makes some projections which of course turn out wrong. Andrea Martin also plays reporter Tawny Beaver (pronounced Bee-vay) who has funny encounters with Hedges and Soren. Libby concedes to Wellesly even though she won. Shanks is re elected as mayor and gets out of the hospital. Soren loses and refuses to answer questions.

The final scene is Sunrise Semester with Ed Grimly, talking about snakes and staring down a cobra.
