Pledge Week Provides One Of The Funniest 90 minute shows
Jimmy_the_Gent417 September 2018
Guy has a pledge week to raise money for the station.

The story gets started right away as Guy tells the audience even though SCTV is a commercial station they still need them to send in money. A commercial about a doctor named Shekter is done to the tune of Dr Pepper. Big Jim McBob and Billy Sol Hurok are the critics on Farm Film Report. They only like movies with things that blow up real good. Then we get Catherine O'Hara as an uptight tour guide leading a group through the station. The door to the studio is locked so she needs to use a grappling hook to get in!

There is a hilarious Mel's Rock Pile sketch about his 20th anniversary. Some of the kids that appeared on his show are on again. They include Joe Flaherty as a know-it-all, Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas as a pair of jokesters, and John Candy and Catherine O'Hara as the couple who met on the show and got married, though now they are bitter bickering couple. Roy Orbison is the musical guest and Mel keeps fainting every time they meet. Roy sings his big hit "Oh Pretty Woman" and shows up later with another great song "Working For The Man". Edith Prickley has her own show Tracking The Unknown where she claims to be in foreign, exotic countries. It includes stock footage of pigs scratching themselves against a fence. Back to pledge week and Bobby Bittman tries to get people to call in. The Elephant Man is one of the people manning the phones.

The tour continues and a brawl starts in the cafeteria because of the Elephant Man, the crowd then chases after him. Lola Heatherton and Count Floyd take over for the pledge drive. We get a funny commercial for a camera with the cast of "Ordinary People", in a parody of the scene in the movie where Timothy Hutton loses it during a family picture. Bill Needle then shows up to rant about how he is not for sale. The Elephant Man takes refuge in a room and is met by Dr Tongue and Bruno doing their 3D routine.

Senile Mayor Tommy Shanks gives a fireside chat. Andrea Martin plays a female race car driver doing a deodorant commercial. Bob and Doug explain their show cannot be called Kanadian Korner. Then we get a long sketch in which O'Henry's short stories are parodied for far fetched surprise endings.

A yogurt commercial with old Russian people is done with O'Hara and Martin as over 100 year old women. The final scene has Lin Ye Tang wanting to put a curse on the audience if they don't call in. The Elephant Man then shows up, he had the sack mask on his head all along. It comes off and he has a Dumbo mask on underneath. It gets the pledges to come in and SCTV is saved. However it turns out the Elephant Man was Bill Needle all along.
