This episode includes a couple Watergate-era references: (1) When Fred denies having tried to win a favor from Lamont by making his favorite breakfast, Fred asks why would he try and bribe Lamont - he isn't the vice-president. Nixon's first vice president Spiro Agnew had to resign in October 1973 over a bribe-taking and kickback scandal dating to Agnew's days as governor of Maryland. (2) Fred says, "No man is above the law, unless he's president. And then it don't even work." By this time the Watergate scandal had ensnared even President Richard Nixon, who would resign in August 1974, eight months after this episode aired.
