During his monologue, Christopher Reeve shows a still photograph of himself as a beaten up Clark Kent with Marlon Brando as Kal-El. This scene was shot for Superman II (1980) but did not see the light of day until the release of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (1980).
Cast member Pamela Stephenson previously acted opposite guest host Christopher Reeve in Superman III (1983).
According to Martin Short's memoir "I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend", he wrote the "Jackie Rogers Jr.'s $100,000 Jackpot Wad" sketch together with SCTV writers Dick Blasucci and Paul Flaherty, with Christopher Guest and Billy Crystal providing their own section. Crystal does his impersonation of Sammy Davis Jr. in the sketch. In his book, Short also says that he based Jackie Rogers Jr.'s mannerisms on Davis Jr.
