80-year-old Ruth Gordon did not get along with the young cast and writers resulting in many clashes during rehearsal. As soon as the show ended, Gordon walked directly out of the studio without saying goodbye. The cast and writers held the after-show party in the studio instead of at a club to ensure they would not bump into Gordon on the street.
O.J. Simpson appears in the audience right before the final good-nights of the show next to the man who was "Brought Here Under Guard."

The character "E. Buzz Miller" (played by Dan Aykroyd) makes his first appearance in the "World of Adventure" sketch. He would return in season 3 as the host of "E. Buzz Miller's Art Classics". Aykroyd and Tom Davis had visited Tahiti during their Christmas holiday, where they met a Canadian man named E. Buzz Miller, who earned his living there by taking pictures of topless native girls for a tourist newsletter.
