Quotes

  • Sir Percy Blakeney : [Rises from the card table]  Really, Madame, really! I must protest. You're ruining a perfectly delightful evening. And, now, by rights you should take his Highness's place and allow me to continue winning.

Countess La Valliere : Unfortunately, Sir Percy, I prefer games of skill and judgement that require the use of one's wits to games of chance.

    [Sir Percy laughs]

Countess La Valliere : But I will lay one wager with you. That this will put an end to the Scarlet Pimpernel.

Sir Percy Blakeney : Oh, that seems sportin' enough. How much?

Countess La Valliere : One hundred guineas.

Sir Percy Blakeney : Done, Madame!

Countess La Valliere : [She gestures to her companion]  Jacqueline, I would like you to come with me.

    [They leave the room]

Sir Percy Blakeney : [Resumes his seat at the card table]  Well, gentlemen, another game?

Sir Andrew Ffoulkes : If that woman stays at court much longer, I shall strangle her with my own hands.

Sir Percy Blakeney : Oh, my dear fellow, you might at least wait until she's paid me my hundred guineas.

    [laughs]
