Trying to make it work

Warning: Spoilers
After a night of intense sex, J.D. and Elliot wake up feeling awkward about it the next morning. But instead of letting Elliot leave he tells her at the last minute to come back to bed. On the very same day they also decide to become a couple, but in secret.

This one has it all. It's full of laughs like most Scrubs affairs, emotional, sweet and the forbidden love aspect even allows for a bit of eroticism. When you see J.D. and Elliot being happy as clams that they've got a good thing going, you get a really pleasant feeling yourself. It seems too perfect to be true. Which unfortunately is the case.

As soon as J.D. and Elliot's secret is out (actually it was out for longer than any of them realizes), things change for the worse very fast. It starts with J.D. telling Turk and Carla they had sex in a very braggy way, and after that they both start getting ticked off at every single little thing either of them do.

J.D. constantly tries to save the mood with his jokes while Elliot gets impatient since in her eyes he refuses to take anything seriously. These sections are the hardest to watch since it's something you've seen so many times. Couples get into these little arguments with each other where it seems like every facial expression or sentence keeps making it worse. No apologies, the arguments only escalate.

And with no resolution to these problems, it all comes crashing down.

The scenes with staff from the hospital getting interviewed where they talk about what made them want to work here, their personal tribulations and general thoughts on life and relationship connect very well to the overarching theme of the episode, as well as give you some interesting insight to the characters' minds.

Bob Kelso's are the funniest ones. His line about calling someone Shelly because she lives in a shell, where according to him "She laughed so hard she cried a bit." isn't immediately hilarious but a clever bit of dark humor.

Dr. Cox provides the biggest amount of wisdom. He confesses that all the times he talked down his wife, he thought that was supposed to be part of what marriage is. It's really heartbreaking.

He also reiterates however that even during the most hellish momenta during a relationship, you can still make it work if you know ho break up the tension with just the right words. Words that remind you of why you love each other in the first place, how the temporary pain can be worth it if you genuinely care about each other.

The present scenes and interviews are interspersed with flashbacks to J.D. and Elliot being in bed all day. At the end, when it's so late it's almost a *new* day, they say goodbye to each other. Both are confident this new relationship is going to be great.

I cried. Hard.
