Wallace Chadwell: James Barton

Quotes

  • [first lines]

Reporter 1 : Major Mathews, how come the court is insisting on Devlin making a personal appearance?

James Barton : Just a minute, just a minute. These hearings are supposed to relate to earthquake safety standards. There's absolutely no reason Mr. Devlin should be ordered to appear personally.

Major Giles Mathews : In my opinion, it's a lot of bureaucratic nonsense.

Reporter 1 : But isn't it really because of Kate Dawes' column?

Major Giles Mathews : A woman scorned, gentlemen, is hardly anyone to be taken seriously.

[Walks toward the up escalator, followed by Barton and the other reporters and their crews]

Reporter 1 : Just one more question, please. Just one more question. Can you wait just a second?

Reporter 2 : Just another question.

Major Giles Mathews : Listen, fellas! In spite of what you might have read in Miss Dawes' column, J.R. Devlin is alive, well and in full possession of his faculties. He just happens to like privacy, and he can afford it.

Reporter 1 : Are you saying that J.R. Devlin might be willing to stop construction on his new World Trade Center just to preserve his privacy?
