"Crosswords" was perhaps the first of the "SCTV" eps to have some great moments

Warning: Spoilers
This is one early "SCTV" I remember watching as a kid though the only parts I really remembered from that first experience was the "Cooking with LaRue" segment in which the John Candy character makes something awful and makes one of his audience members eat it and a sketch featuring those famous thespians-Sir Ralph Richardson and Sir John Gielgud-in what turns out to be the first time the show had guest stars. This also marked the first time "The Sammy Maudlin Show" was shown (as always, "joined in progress") with eventually frequent guest Bobby Bittman-who usually is just "walking in" in the middle of the show-and Lorna Minelli whose name is indeed a mix of Judy Garland's two daughters though Andrea Martin is obviously doing Liza. That character appears in a couple of other sketches like the hilarious promo of her doing Dorothy of The Wizard of Oz while making funny faces in "The Wizard of the Exorcist"! Another guest of "The Sammy Maudlin Show" is Trish Nulty who proceeds to castigate the others for fawning over each other which stops the show...until Bittman then fawns over her! Other highlights is a spot for "Spray-On Socks" and "The $211,000 Triangle" game show in which Bittman has trouble answering or giving clues. Not everything is great-for instance, "Shakespere's Greatest Jokes" gets a meh from me and the Richardson-Gielgud piece was only slightly amusing, but so much is funny that I highly recommend this "Crosswords" ep of "SCTV". Additional note, this was the first time Harold Ramis wasn't on screen with the rest of the cast.
