"They're only comfortable with their equipment."
itamarscomix4 October 2011
Season 6, Episode 15, "Teh Beard" Not a great episode, but a good one. Number one main reason to see George wearing a toupee. Number two is Elaine, who's the real star of the episode and pulls some very good acting. TV mainstay Robert Mailhouse is excellent as her gay love interest.

The main weakness the episode half is lack of material; nothing very interesting happens to Kramer or Jerry, in fact Jerry's storyline is one of the silliest in the show's run. But Elaine and George are both terrific and they make the episode work, even if it's not one of the best of season 6.

Toupee was great

I never really got the hate of the other characters with George and the toupee. I think he looks way, way better and if it boosts his confidence, why wouldn't you leave him with it.

If I were Jason in real life, I'd 100% be wearing the toupee because it looked fab.

Changing Teams?
Hitchcoc8 January 2023
Like so many episodes, things are frantic, going from one focus to the next. At the center is George's toupee which is vilified by the rest of the gang. Elaine is particularly cruel. Then Kramer sets George up with a girl who turns out to be bald. Kramer also has a bit with a homeless man who steals his Tupperware bowl (Kramer misses the burp when you close the lid). Meanwhile, Elaine agrees to go with a gay man to the ballet so his boss won't know he is gay. Of course, she falls for him and tries to change him. There is this great business where Jerry tries to explain to her why it won't work, using baseball teams as an example. I thought it clicked pretty well.

Melrose

Warning: Spoilers
Jon Gries, who over a quarter-of-a-century later had a starring role in The White Lotus (the first season) should have won an Emmy for his role as the Homeless Man in The Beard. I'm enjoying very much re-watching most of the episodes of Seinfeld, having first watched it when it debuted back in the 1990s, and it's hard to believe it was that long ago.

The Beard also is a homage to Melrose Place, and we learn that Jerry and the Scooby Gang are huge fans, as they end the episode watching Melrose Place. The lie detector test was hilarious, with Jerry being caught out as a fan of Melrose Place for sure.

I Got Rejected by a Bald Woman
Samuel-Shovel23 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
George continues to wear a toupee and is set up for a date with an old friend of Kramer's; she happens to be bald. Jerry starts dating a police officer but has to go through a lie detector test to prove he doesn't watch Melrose Place. Kramer begins doing police lineups for cash; he also gets into a bit of a feud with a homeless person after the man takes Kramer's Tupperware. Elaine tries to turn a gay man straight.

Despite the order of my summary above, Elaine is center stage for this episode. Her attempt to date a gay man is the main plot line and takes up the majority of the screen time. It's an okay thread but the baseball analogy relating to it gets a bit tiresome. Jerry's subplot involving Melrose Place does not hold up at all on modern viewing and really ages the episode. Kramer's section is okay but nothing extremely noteworthy. My favorite part is when Elaine tosses George's hairpiece out the window. George's cocky swagger he assumes while have it on is pretty great, as well. Still, a fairly below average episode overall for Seinfeld's standards.

George looked better with the hair
ThunderKing615 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A hair here do you hear?

March 15th 2023rd

What is this episode about?: George flaunts his hair and dates a shiny head women

Kramer hands out a tupperware and gets to be a spotter.

Elaine dates an lgbt guy.

Jerry goes face to face with a lie detector.

Story and Production: Only Jerry Storyline was vastly interesting.

George's story was mostly off-screen. Elaine is Elaine. Kramer is just there.

This episode was only good for Jerry's part.

Highlight: Jerry admitting watching that boring show.

Villain: Elaine for assaulting George. Elaine, even before this, has always been rude and superficial to guys. Now George has hair, she assaults him because he got rejected by a bald woman.

Elaine is mean. This is basically the downfall, after this until The engagement episode it really shown her new Bword evolution.

What can be learned?: This was the episode where Elaine turned into a Bword.

Verdict: He was bald.
