When Kramer is playing pool with Frank and switches to the Maestro's baton, his comment, "I've got a hunch, fat man, that I don't miss," refers to "The Hustler" (1961) where "Fast Eddie" Felson challenges the "fat man," Minnesota Fats, to a game of straight pool for $200 a game.
Kathy Griffin, who played Sally Weaver, performed a stand up comedy routine after filming this episode, alleging that Jerry Seinfeld was rude to her during the making of the episode. Jerry found it amusing and wrote her a humorous letter, as well as showed the clip of her routine to Seinfeld audiences. He wrote it into a later episode, 9.13 The Cartoon (1998), & had Griffin return as Sally Weaver once again.
George's (Jason Alexander) line, "I'm on no sleep, bro" was inspired by writer Bruce Kirschbaum who said it frequently. Episode co-writer Tom Gammill recalls Kirschbaum saying it and claiming that he'd been up for 24 hours straight just to work on one line for Jerry.
The working title for this episode was "The Doormat." Initially, the doormat Sally (Kathy Griffin) gave George (Jason Alexander) was to play a bigger part of the story, but as the script was rewritten, the focus changed to Susan's doll collection, and the episode was renamed accordingly.
