Shrinkage wins the day
lbowdls5 July 2019
This episode is one of my absolute favourites it is so full of so many classic lines and scenes it's too many to mention. But the shrinkage line along with Elaine's 'I don't know how you guys walk around with those things' is another notch on their knowledge of female thoughts. And it's great that George finally gets an upper hand on someone that does him wrong. The whole thing is a memorable all round classic delight!

One hell of an episode about one hell of a weekend !!! The sequence of events are so hilarious! I find Seinfeld the best way to have therapy in this modern and crazy world.

In a word: "Breathtaking..."
Definitely in my Top 10 all time Seinfeld episodes; Elaine's reactions are especially priceless throughout the whole show as she rides a roller coaster of emotions from the ugly baby scenes and those concerning her attraction to the house doctor. George and his "shrinkage" issue are hilarious as well.

"You have to see the baby!"

Season 5, Episode 20, "The Hamptons"

"The Hamptons" could have easily been the season 5 finale, and be utterly satisfying. Gladly, it was followed by the even better "The Opposite" which took the prize instead.

"The Hamptons" is one of the best episode of Seinfeld's glorious 5th season, and one of the best overall. All four actors deliver flawlessly, Julia more than any. Her input on the hilarious 'shrinkage' scene is some of her funniest work on the series.

It's one of the few episodes in season 5 that took the characters out of their comfort zone of Monk's Coffeeshop and Jerry's apartment, and the change in scenery does them a load of good, as it remains one of the most memorable and unique episodes of the series.

Seinfeld Hits the Beach

Warning: Spoilers
The whole gang goes to the Hamptons to meet a friend's new baby. George and Jerry bring their girlfriends. Meanwhile, Kramer steals a bunch of lobster from a local trap.

This is one of the BEST episodes of the season. "I was in the pool!" and "Shrinkage" are both extremely quotable and hilarious. George's level of pettiness is at an all-time in this one.

My only critique is the ending. The slapstick of George getting hit with a tomato at the fruit stand didn't really work for me. Besides this, this episode is nearly flawless.

I don't know how you guys walk around with those things!

Wall to wall humor . This episode doesn't skip a beat . From George's girlfriend walking around topples to the shrinkage, George's scrambled eggs to Kramer's lobster. It's one hell of a weekend!

Add to that a baby that is apparently ugly and Seinfeld goes there! To a pediatrician Elaine finds first attractive but ultimately annoying. The funny thing is the couple who invited them all are seen very little at all unusual for such an episode most shows would feature them heavily but instead they are just the reason for the weekend in the Hamptons not the focus. The writing is so sharp and witty juggling several balls at once there is never a lull in the episode.

Perfect!

After nearly 5 seasons " The hamptons" is my New favorite épisode and my first 10/10 on IMDb for Seinfeld, What a Wonderful and Funny épisode, with a fast rytm that make me think more about Friends then seinfeld usual slower rytm.

Im maybe going to have a New favorite épisode in the last 4 Season but as for now , this one is number 1.

"So, you feel you were short-changed."
jazzfi16 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seinfeld at its peak. Al shows start slow, peak, and then run out of ideas to keep them sustainable, but in 1994 this show was hot, the perfect combination of writing and situations.

The gang heads for the ritzy Hamptons for a weekend to see their friends' recently born baby and to enjoy the sand and surf. George heads out there with a date, who is evidently not committed as a "girlfriend" and George naturally jumps to the assumption that this overnighter will automatically move the friendship to consummation. WRONG!!! Never make such an assumption or you'll get your feelings crushed. Keep it as friends and you'll be okay, even if she decides to walk around topless around your friends.

Elaine quickly falls for the good looks of their hosts' pediatrician and is just as quickly disappointed when he uses the word "breathtaking" to describe her, but also uses the same adjective to describe the hosts' baby, which we do not get to see, but who is evidently homely for a baby.

"A little too much chlorine in that gene pool." What a great line.

Kramer goes to the beach and poaches one of the lobster traps and becomes a hero, that is until their host finds out about it and reports him to the local authorities, which wins Kramer some well deserved community hours.

Jerry's girlfriend Rachel obviously does not like George from the get-go and is not very friendly toward him, which sets the scene for the events to come. George is terribly upset that Jerry and Kramer got to see Jane topless while he was gone to pick up tomatoes. He definitely should have waited. In typical childish fashion, he now wants to see Rachel topless. "The punishment should fit the crime." Yeah, right. He tries walking in on her while she's changing but misses, but then the tables are turned when Rachel accidently walks in on him while he's getting out of his wet swim trunks, she finds him in a shrunken state, and giggles as she apologizes. George is paralyzed with embarrassment. "I was in the pool, I was in the pool!" She then evidently mentions it to Jane, who then happens to finds some reason to go back on home. Of course, George wants to believe it was due to the "shrinkage" factor. Again, he should not have wanted to get serious way too soon.

George, in his own immature mind, gets even by preparing eggs for breakfast for everyone, and sneaks in some lobster into the mix, knowing Rachel only eats kosher meals. That was a real cheap shot, to hurt someone and make them go against their religious vows without their knowing.

Truly one of the classic episodes.

The Ugliest Baby!
Hitchcoc21 October 2022
This is a sensational offering. The gang goes to the Hamptons to see a new baby. It turns out the baby is so ugly, it is nearly impossible to look at him. George is expecting to get laid but everything works against him (including the fact the the young woman can barely stand him). Kramer finds some lobster traps and steals them, making lobster for everyone with serious results. But the greatest part of this one is the whole "shrinkage" thing, referring to the male anatomy when introduced to cold. There are several hilarious moments relating to this. Also, the regular recurrence of the word "breathtaking." One of the best of all the shows.

George did not deserve what he received in this episode.
ThunderKing68 March 2023
I feel bad for Georgy C. Aka Tbone. I felt he was treated poorly.

March 8th is when this review was written on IMDb.

About: The gang take a trip to the Hamptons to see an ugly baby.

George tries to get some but is humiliated by 2 females for no reason.

Jerry cringes at a baby

Kramer finds lobster

Elaine is breathtaking and tries to get a doctor

Story: only Georges story carries this episode. The rest were irrelevant. Elaine'sinor story was kind of interesting.

Still one of Seinfelds greatest eps.

Production was magnificent. It was great to be away from the city.

Highlight: Topless scene (clearly she was not topless if you watch closely). George getting revenge with lobster.

Kramer reaction to the ugly baby.

Kramer telling George he saw her topless.

Laugh meter: 10

Girlfriend attractiveness level: George's girl only had a good side profile. Overall she looked like she was from Ottawa.

She gets a 4

Jerry's girl was hot top 5-3.

She gets a good 9.

What can be learned? Don't date mean girls.

Should you watch this? Yes. A bonifide episode to enjoy.

Seinfeld in the Hamptons
safenoe14 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm enjoying pretty much most of the Seinfeld episodes that I first watched when it debuted back in the 1990s, yes, that's right three decades ago. In fact, The Hamptons, with its famous catch-phrase, debuted nearly 30 years ago to this day.

Melanie Smith returns as Rachel Goldstein, who made out with Jerry a few episodes earlier in the cinema screening the black and white movie by Steven Spielberg. Melora Walters guest stars as Jane, who George has designs for sure, but albeit things go wrong when George is caught out.

It's not often Seinfeld is set outside of New York City, and here they are in the Hamptons.

With friends like these...

You know the rest. It was a fun and sometimes funny episode. But everyone outside of the gang was extremely unpleasant. A bunch of unlike able rats and hypocrites. They actually ruined the show for me. Especially Rachel and George's... I don't even know how you can call a person who does that. Shrinkage or not, lol, poor George...
