- Carrie has an opportunity to buy her apartment since it's going coop, but without her ex-fiancé Aidan can't get enough capital together, so she must consider a cheaper lifestyle; Miranda calculates she wasted some $40,000 on her shoe obsession. Samantha takes a Chanel bag and other luxury gifts from Richard as a declaration of love, till she realizes how impersonal the cards are. Charlotte wanted to get her wedding ring converted to a necklace, but the words 'melt it down' make her realize she's not that ready yet. Realizing her financial misery after seeing unaffordable apartments she wouldn't even want, Carrie considers accepting a loan from Big, but after Sam and Miranda say they would rather spring her themselves tears up his check. Charlotte takes a volunteer job in the museum, and Carrie, who can only get freelance work with Vogue, works her frustrations out on the rich girl, who tells her off to manage her own finances like an adult. Taking a bath in Richards apartment, Sam bumps on his gay personal shopper Roger, and makes him put in a card mentioning love for a change. Pregnancy-horny Miranda talks Steve into giving her multiple orgasms, but 'no strings'. Charlotte gives her ring to Carrie for a down-payment, so the contract is signed.—KGF Vissers
- After Aidan moves out, Carrie must consider whether to buy her apartment from him but doesn't have enough for the down payment, so she must consider a cheaper lifestyle; Miranda calculates Carrie has spent $40,000 on designer shoes. Samantha enjoys expensive gifts from Richard but is frustrated that the card included always says "Best, Richard," and not "Love, Richard." After an accidental run-in with Richard's personal shopper, she arranges for a more personal card that leads Richard to finally say, "I love you." Charlotte finds herself still attached to her engagement ring and considers having it turned into a necklace. Carrie is unable to find an acceptable apartment in her price range and considers taking a loan from Big. Samantha and Miranda both offer to give her the money for her down payment, but Charlotte does not, leading to an argument in which Charlotte tells Carrie to grow up and stand on her own. Carrie in turn criticizes Charlotte for not letting go of her engagement ring, and ends up finding freelance work writing for Vogue. Ultimately, Charlotte decides to give Carrie her ring for the down payment.—JCQ
- Aidan moves out and Carrie returns the engagement ring to him. Aidan had left a thick envelope for Carrie, which she assumes is his good-bye letter. But it turns out to be a legal notice from Aidan's lawyer. Carrie engages Miranda to guide her. Aidan has given her 30 days to decide what to do with the apartment. She can buy it or move out, in which case, he will sell the apartment. Carrie is forced to buy her apartment back from Aidan.
Carrie has $1657 in the bank and no assets (property, stocks or bonds). No bank will give her a loan as she has no other income apart from the column she writes. Carrie is not a desirable candidate for a loan. Miranda makes her realize that Carrie has bought $40,000 in shoes. Carrie is mortified that she spent that much on shoes and has no place to live. Carrie goes looking for rental apartments, but there is nothing that she likes in her budget. Carrie lives in a rent-controlled apartment for $750 per month, and now even spending $2800 a month gets her an apartment only half the size. Carrie meets Big to ask his advice about leveraging and how to get the money to buy the apartment. Big offers her $30,000 for the down-payment. The girls ask Carrie not to cash Big's check as that would give him the power in their relationship. Miranda is willing to loan her $15,000 and Samantha the rest. Carrie is angry at Charlotte that she didn't offer her the money. Charlotte pushes back saying Carrie should fix her own finances. Carrie says that she knows she has made some mistakes and is looking into some freelance work. She has been offered $4/word at Vogue, when most people are offered only $2/word. But Carrie says that Charlotte also made mistakes, and Carrie was there with her every step of the way.
Charlotte doesn't know what to do with her engagement ring. She gets some ideas about converting it into a necklace but can't get herself to do it. Turns out many women get their engagement rings or wedding ring diamonds changed into necklaces or earrings, and this depresses her. Eventually Charlotte gives her ring to Carrie so she can sell it and make the down-payment on her apartment.
Miranda has to refurbish her wardrobe after gaining pregnancy weight. She takes Carrie to shop for better and more comfortable shoes as she is bloating up. Miranda is feeling very sexually active. Miranda reckons this is why you are supposed to be married when you are pregnant, so somebody is obligated to have sex with you. She begs Steve to have sex with her.
Samantha tries to trick Richard into saying he loves her. Richard gives expensive gifts to Samantha which she likes, but he signs them "best" and not "love". Samantha finds that Richard has a personal shopper Roger (who is gay) buying gifts for all his mistresses and writing his cards for him. Roger tells Samantha that Richard is sending gifts to a lot less women ever since she came into the picture. And he never sent Roger to Chanel. Samantha convinces Roger to sign the card "Love". When Samantha shows that card to Richard, he is stunned and says "I Love you" to Samantha.
