- After Carrie's break-up with Mr. Big, despite Charlotte's rule it takes half the duration of a relationship to get over it, she lets true fan Miranda take her and Sam to the Yankees stadium, where she accidentally catches a ball and thus meets and invites, to everyone's surprise with success, charming baseball star Joe Starr to a party but bumps into Big there. Samantha is still miserable and tries to physically coach her James in bed, to no avail. Charlotte finds a lover with only one drawback, instinctive reaching for his balls, and buys him boxer shorts - which he finds too possessive.—KGF Vissers
- Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) meets "the new Yankee," Joe (Mark Devine), at a baseball game. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) put the whole thing together by taking Carrie and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) to the game, to take their minds off Big (Chris Noth) and James (James Goodwin) respectively. Carrie has been avoiding trying to run into Mr Big on the streets and is very careful about where she goes and when. Charlotte says that it takes half the time you were dating, to get over someone. So, for Carrie there are still 5 months left.
Samantha is still with James, but unable to overcome his "shortcomings". Miranda is a huge Yankees fan. Carrie catches a fly ball at the game. They go to get the ball signed by Joe. Carrie uses her press pass to get them into the players dressing room area. Miranda is a huge Yankees fan and likes Joe, but Carrie asks Joe to the Dolce and Gabbana party. Miranda does not consider it fair.
Carrie is also preparing for her first post-breakup encounter with Big. She starts dressing fabulously every time she goes out. Carrie's big question is "in a world where breakups are more frequent, what are the breakup rules?" Carrie has invited Joe to the D&G party as she was hoping to into Big there. She wanted to win the break-up against Big and which is also why she maxed out her credit card to buy a gorgeous dress. Carrie and Joe go for a stroll and make it to page 6 on the Saturday newspaper. Samantha is happy as she believes that Big will see that picture and die of jealousy.
Samantha gets frustrated with James' "deficiencies". She tries every trick in the book to make the sex work, but eventually gives in and brings in a vibrator. Samantha strikes out with James.
Charlotte dates a guy named Paul Ericson (Robert T. Bogue), the VP at a major music label Jazz division. Paul has a tendency to adjust his package... a lot.
Miranda gets fed up with the girls always talking about men. She is angry that 4 intelligent, successful women can't get over Big, or Joe, or James's small penis or Paul's scratchy balls. She leaves.
Charlotte tries to fix the problem with Paul by gifting him really nice and supportive boxers. But Paul thinks she is going way too fast and breaks up with her. Charlotte could never tell him that the problem was with him scratching his package all the time. Miranda gets even more agitated when she runs into Eric (Jon Patrick Walker) (her ex-love of her life) and the girl whom he left her for. She runs away.
Carrie runs into Big at a bar, while she is out on a date with Joe. Big is cool and puts his hands around Carrie. Her heart is going a million miles a minute. Big leaves. Carrie admits to Joe that she is not ready to date yet and leaves. Carrie calls Miranda and calls her over. Carrie meets Miranda and they share fries. Miranda forgives Carrie for not being able to get over Big as she now knows that she has not able to get over Eric ever after 2 years.
