This episode is an homage to Breakfast At Tiffany's (1961), a film also about high class sex workers. The scene with Carrie getting ready while Skipper is in her bedroom is shot to visually allude to the classic sequence of Holly Golightly getting ready while Fred is in her room. Additionally, Amalita is frequently seen with a cigarette holder almost exactly like Audrey Hepburn's in the film.
