It's a winner

So many memorable details to this one. Like, the invention of the Flaming Homer as a result of Patty drinking his last beer; or that Bart's prank backfire leads to an utterly polite conversation (with the real Hugh Jass); or that Aerosmith become a running gag by virtue of playing a show for free pickled eggs; or Moe's tavern reimagined as the bar from "Cheers" . . .

The basic story is rock-solid (a patented drink threatening the friendship between Homer and Moe) but the wit throughout is fantastic. I have to confess that it's Mayor Quimby's "It can be two things!" Internet meme that brought me here (it's a great line), but I got a killer episode out of it.

Another top 10 Simpsons favorite of mine.

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode we see Moe the bartender steal a drink idea from Homer and become rich and famous as a result. Poor Homer sets out to prove the fact that Moe stole his idea, all with hilarious results. We also see some famous guest voices from the band Aerosmith, with Bart's teacher, Mrs. Krabappel, hilariously trying to seduce the members of the band. The opening theme and credits of the TV show Cheers is also parodied as the Flaming Moe's bar. We also see one Bart's famous Moe's prank calls backfire on him for once as the fake name he uses turns out to be a real person. Definitely one of the best Simpsons episodes from the early years of the series.

Now This Is What I Like!

This is the tenth episode of the third season of the Simpsons and it is a laughter riot. I was laughing nonstop especially when we learn how Homer made his secret alcoholic recipe. There is a touching theme here on the value of friendship and how success does not equal friendship. Also, Aerosmith was an excellent guest star because they knew how to rock out.

In this episode, "Flaming Moe's", Homer introduces Moe his recipe which he invented and Moe decides to betray his friend and uses the recipe as his own invention which gives him lots of success, but may have lost Homer as a friend.

Overall, another excellent episode. It was really funny. I also liked when Bart does his usual prank call and he almost gets caught. But Aerosmith so far is one of the greatest guest stars to appear in an Simpsons episode to date. I rate this episode 9/10.

Really good episode! Excellent! 10/10 (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!)

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this episode of the simpsons was really really well done. It is easily the best episode of season 3.

This is what happens in the episode: (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)Moe and his tavern are in serious financial trouble. After he runs out of beer, Homer decides to tell him about a drink recipe that he accidentally invented one night, called the "Flaming Homer". He explains that after Patty and Selma made the Simpson family watch slides from their latest vacation, he was unable to find a beer (after Patty took the last can). He decided to mix together drops of liquor from near-empty bottles and accidentally included a bottle of Krusty Brand non-narcotic cough syrup. When Patty dropped cigarette ash in the drink and set it on fire, Homer discovered that fire greatly enhanced the flavor of the drink.

Moe steals Homer's recipe and begins serving the "Flaming Moe" as his own concoction. Moe sees his business boom, and his tavern soon becomes one of the trendiest nightspots in Springfield and Aerosmith's official hangout. Homer becomes angry with Moe and vows never to return to the tavern. He subsequently becomes obsessed with Moe and his betrayal.

A Flaming HomerAfter the waitress Moe has hired discovers that Moe stole the recipe from Homer, she convinces him to sell the drink and give half of the money to Homer. Restaurant chain owners become interested in purchasing the secret ingredient for the drink, offering Moe $1,000,000 for it.

Moe is about to accept the deal — and share half of the money with Homer — when Homer arrives at the tavern and climbs on top of Aerosmith's set. He gets his revenge on Moe by revealing to everyone in the bar that the secret ingredient is ordinary cough syrup.

Within days, nearly all restaurants in Springfield are serving Flaming Moes (under slightly altered names, such as Flaming Meaux), and Moe's business has greatly decreased. Homer stops in and finds that Moe now understands what he did wrong and is not angry at Homer. He even gives Homer a "Flaming Homer" on the house.

Here you go, your majesty

Homer invents a drink but Moe takes the credit and profits.

The story of Moe, in true 80s economic boom style, taking advantage of Homer's invention, is a simple and engaging way of taking us to numerous great moments involving the two characters.

I love the humour, particularly the shenanigans at Lisa's slumber party, Homer's brief flirtation with a different bar, and Homer's famous outburst to the concept of "making people happy".

The various tributes such as to 'Cocktail', 'Cheers' and 'Phantom of the Opera' are brilliant, plus the cameo by Aerosmith is a classic.

Moe's temptation

Warning: Spoilers
Flaming Moe's is from the third season of The Simpsons, which has to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, well the first 10 seasons really with some episodes beyond that worth watching. Here Aerosmith guest star as themselves as they celebrate Moe's success with Flaming Moe's, but really it's Moe who stole Homer's idea, and we see just how Homer struggles with this, and how Moe kind of struggles with how he betrayed Homer even though they are great buddies.

The ending was kind of a comeuppance for Moe and at the end Homer and Moe make up and become friends all over again as though the saga never happened.

An all time classic

I haven't seen this episode in at least 25 years but it is so perfectly realized as a parody of Cheers that I remember basically everything about it. When I re-watched it I was saying lines of dialog because so many of much of the episode is simply burned into my mind. Bonus: this is one of the few times that Homer is completely in the moral right of a situartion.

Great episode

Warning: Spoilers
One of the most popular episodes I am sure, "Flaming Moe's" is one of the best of the series. A standout highlight in all of season 3; it may be the best of the whole season. So basically, to put things into perspective quickly, Homer is at Moe's and there are no available beers, and Homer isn't even able to grab that last drops from the beer tap given Barney already has, so he gives Moe what's essentially an own formula he mixed together one night when Patty and Selma were over showing their slides. Homer mixes around with some bits from leftover drinks, with the "secret ingredient" if you will, being none other than Children's cough syrup. Add it all together and mix it with the final touch of a lit cigarette falling into its contents, thus setting alight the cup and you're left with what is known as a Flaming Homer.

Well, a Flaming Moe, as Moe quickly becomes something of a small time celebrity after "coming up with it" himself. The bar becomes Flaming Moe's, and the episode follows Homer and Moe as Moe becomes a welcomed bartender with celebrities even making their name known, alongside the likes of Aerosmith, legendary rock band. Oh, and Krusty the Clown is also there. Yayyyy. Homer becomes jealous and tired of Moe taking this as his own, but the episode is very funny and written well and to me it is a top tier Simpsons episode overall. Very memorable one.

Kindness Followed by Stupidity
Hitchcoc17 April 2022
When Homer brings himself down, he usually takes someone with him (or vice versa). Here, when Moe's business is on the skids and he runs out of beer, Homer brings forth a drink he calls the Flaming Homer, but Moe steals it and it brings him fame and fortune. Homer becomes obsessed with the unfairness. It ends as we would expect for a couple losers.

Thoroughly Mediocre
Anonymous-73325 March 2016
I'm going through the whole "Simpsons" TV series, starting from season 1 -- and this is the first episode I'd rate a 5/10 or lower. Most of the jokes didn't make me laugh.

The Aerosmith guest bit is completely uninspired. It could've been Kiss or AC/DC and the substance of the joke wouldn't have changed at all. The joke is that Aerosmith is in Moe's Tavern and playing one of their songs. Not very creative.

Michael Jackson's guest appearance (season 3, episode 1) was much better. Granted, the episode revolved around him. So what else about the episode, besides Aerosmith?

It's a morality play worse than any modern kids' show. Seriously, the morals of Steven Universe and My Little Pony are more clever and nuanced than this. The Simpsons can do episodes with heart and/or a message (see Lisa's Substitute or Homer Defined). This one just feels half-baked.

Apparently there's a "Cheers" reference, but I haven't seen that show. I did like the alternative animation style (static images) used during the "Flaming Moe's" song. From reading online, that sequence was a Cheers reference.

I was grossed out by the composition of the Flaming Homer drink. That's part of the humor, but it's not the kind of humor I usually like.

Some jokes were funny - the gratuitous use of women as eye-candy in Kent Brockman's video series and his 7-part look at "the bikini". The Springfield Tire Fire is hilarious.

I wish I spent my time watching this episode doing something else. I don't feel fulfilled by it at all.
