Meet The Be Sharps

Warning: Spoilers
What a marvelous way to start a Season, Season 5, a really great Season, many many gems and this episode, Homer's Barbershop Quartet, is definitely one of them and a favourite of mine.

Meet The Be Sharps and not only us will meet Homer, Principal Skinner, Apu and Barney's barbershop quartet but also Bart and Lisa will discover that once their father had fame and fortune. Our story then Season 5 begins at the Springfield swap meet and certainly the Simpsons are there and you will really laugh, especially is extremely hilarious when Homer finds the most valuable comic book (Action Comics 1), the United States Declaration of Independence, Inverted Jenny postage stamps and a Stradivarius violin, each thing cost 5¢! You know Homer and I wrote that is extremely hilarious, you know. Anyway, there Bart and Lisa find an album and their father is on the cover so we go to 1985 and we meet The Be Sharps. Is all really great, from the story of an original member of the quartet known as Chief Wiggum (he was too Village People!) to the fall of The Be Sharps (hilarious the song "Number 8"). John Lennon said "we're more popular than Jesus" but The Be Sharps entitled an album "Bigger than Jesus"! Yes many great references to The Beatles, better is all Beatles! We have George Harrison and his moments are hilarious.

Terrific episode, brilliant way to avoid all the possible questions, nice music, you have to see the rise, fall and reunion of The Be Sharps! 9.5 out of 10.

The Season Five opener Homers Barbershop Quartet is an absolute classic Simpsons episode, its well put together and well thought out.

When The Simpsons go to a Swab Meat convention they find an old CD for a band that Homer use to be in,Bart and Lisa cant remember it so Homer tells them the story.

Homer,PrincipaL Skinner,Apu and Chief Wiggum use to sing on stage at Moes, they then get signed up for their own famous band but they have to kick Chief Wiggum out and then they replace him with Barney after hearing him singing in the bathroom.

CLASSIC SIMPSONS

Great start to what I believe to be their best season

While we're at it, I definitely don't agree with the people who say stuff like "seasons 1-8 are the only good ones," "season 2-9" etc., I mean I do think seasons 1-10 are the best, but I really like seasons 11-12 and some of 13-15. I also like the Simpsons movie, and lots of various other media, the games are great. But I'm sure in saying, to me, seasons 3-5 were the top three seasons. The episodes have so much charm, wit, interesting and enjoyable plots and great character dynamics and moments, sometimes endearing and even very melancholic. I love that with the Simpsons it doesn't rely on these poignant and touching scenarios but they're also not thrown in for the sake of it; they are naturally occurring and work within the context. I feel like this is a great episode which displays this, oftentimes through nostalgia/the whole sentimental side of things, and a kind of warm callback to, you guessed it, the Beatles. A more music-orientated episode. It's just really sweet, but still funny and ticks all the nostalgia boxes. This is easily a highlight to any season intro, and probably a top 25 episode of the entire show for me. The episode is feel good and has some good enjoyable moments. Also the music is catchy. Homer is great in particular. As well as Chief Wiggum. The ending is my favourite part hands down. Season five starts off fresh but familiar, funny and thoughtful. The episodes were also starting to look quite a bit better here, which I enjoy as well. The contrast into the following episode is also great because it's even better, as fantastic as this one is, even.

One of my favourite ever episodes, this one sees Homer recalling his brief time as a music star.

With some lovely jabs at the music industry and fame in general, this is laugh a minute, excellent stuff.

This is a very strong episode with a fun story and great humour.

I love the the tale of the B Sharps, particularly the subtleties of Homer's version of the story like the first suggestion for the band's name to be Handsome Homer Simpson + 3.

The scenes at the swap meet are great, plus everything in the build-up to Barney joining. All the rise and fall elements of the plot are excellent, especially with the Beatles parody being so good.

There are so many funny moments it's difficult to pick a favourite, but the part where Homer has to discuss the prospect of groupies with Marge has fantastic comic timing.

Wonderful

A truly great beginning to the fifth season. At a swap meet it is discovered that Homer was once a big star in a barbershop quarter. As he tells the story we see all these parallels to the Beatles. Yoko Ono even tries to break up the group. Some terrific sight gags and clever dialogue take it to the next level. Meanwhile, it is barbershop!

Brush with Greatness was the first episode to feature a Beatle as a guest voice, being Ringo Starr as himself. In Homer's Barbershop Quartet, the season five opener, we have George Harrison appearing himself at the end when the Barbershop Quartet re-enacted the famous Beatles' famous rooftop performance. Definitely pure Simpsons and that's why The Simpsons is one of the best sitcoms, not just animated, of all time. This episode is peak Simpsons, and in my humble opinion, it's the first 10 seasons that is the golden era, with some episodes after that that are worth watching for sure. Paul McCartney guest stars in a later episode.
