I cannot write a review for the entire "Smith Family" series as I only saw most of the episodes back when I was only 7 years-old. However, I did see the first episode today and I can say, at least for that one, it was a dandy episode...though a bit dated when you see it today.
Chad Smith (Henry Fonda...sporting a very realistic toupee) is a police detective. Things get complicated when a family friend comes to him to tell Chad that her daughter is using marijuana. Apparently she is convinced that using pot will lead to harder drugs...something which is, today, assumed not to be the case. Regardless, she also makes Chad promise never to tell the daughter that she turned her in to the police. However, after arresting the girl, her classmates all assume that Chad's daughter, Cindy, turned her in since the girls are friends and because Cindy was there during the arrest. How will the family cope with this minor crisis?
This is a highly unusual episode because it features a much more normal and loving family you are used to seeing in TV shows of the era. I liked that, though some might find it a bit schmaltzy. An interesting episode...one that has me wanting to see more.
