The Kingpin's wife Vanessa and Silvermaine's daughter Alisha Silver are seen in this series for the first time. This is the first time Vanessa Fisk appeared outside of the comics and Alisha Silver was created for this series.
Alistar Smythe built another Spider Slayer called the "Mega Slayer", This battle robot has a versitle humanoid design with missiles, lasers, and pulse blasters. There's even a screen on the head to allows Smythe's face to be seen.
This episode is loosely based on "The Amazing Spider-Man" (Vol. 1) #68-70 which featured The Kingpin trying to steal the ancient tablet of time and life from the ESU campus and #73 which featured the first appearance of Silvermaine who wanted Dr. Conner's to translate the text on the Tablet of Time and to make a potion to turn him young again. Man-Mountain Marko was Silvermaine's loyal lieutenant in the story but was replaced with Tombstone in this episode.
This version of Hammerhead says his head is laced with adamantium a fictional metal alloy in the Marvel Universe. In the original comics, Hammerhead had much of his skull replaced with an unbendable steel alloy, which gave him head a flattened shape, by Jonas Harrow.
