Malcolm's unsettling use of the word "sweet" to describe lethal technology is a reference to a speech J. Robert Oppenheimer made at a Hearing before the Personnel Security Board of the United States Atomic Energy Commission in 1954: "When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and you argue about what to do about it only after you have had your technical success."
