Hawksworth, Lottie and the team head to an African Republic, searching for Hafiz, an old friend of Lottie's who's now politically very much out of favour. Lottie is hunting for the target, the spider's mark.
Oh dear, this is the first time so far that I've regretted laying out for the dvd, I know in some ways you could argue that this is a sign of the times, but it's an episode that has aged dreadfully.
I've just watched an episode of ATV's The Champions called Desert Journey, it's never repeated, largely because of its depiction of Arab people, this has the same issue, the way it depicts African people, I'm watching with a sheet over my eyes. You can just imagine Hawksworth's clicking his fingers and shouting 'boy!!'
There are a couple of fun interchanges between Lottie and Hawksworth as you'd expect, but sadly they're not enough to save it in any way shape of form.
It is however good to see both Rudolph Walker and Earl Cameron, sadly the both are poorly served.
I'm not sure this will ever see the light of day again, it's certainly never going to be transmitted on any network, and you can understand why, to say it's a troubled production is an understatement.
4/10.
