- A transporter accident places Captain Kirk's landing party in an alternate universe, where the Enterprise is in the service of a barbarically brutal empire.
- Beamed up during an ion storm, which causes a transporter malfunction, the landing party of Kirk, McCoy, Scotty and Uhura find themselves in a mirror universe aboard a parallel Enterprise run by ruthless barbarians. The ion storm also caused their malicious counterparts to beam to the real starship. Kirk and the others must find a way home before they are discovered and exposed by their parallel crew members, who use treachery, back-stabbing and seduction to get what they want.—fkelleghan@aol.com
- An ion storm causes a transporter mishap, beaming Kirk, McCoy, Scott and Uhura into a parallel universe where a ruthless Empire sits in place of their benevolent Federation and crewmen commonly advance in rank by assassinating their superiors. The foursome must switch back with their counterparts before they're killed and before the widening gap between universes makes it impossible. In their way: a treacherous Ensign Chekov, a scar-faced Sulu eager for the captaincy, and a bearded Mr. Spock with Empire orders to kill Captain Kirk at the next inexcusable display of mercy.—statmanjeff
- While beaming back to the Enterprise during an ion storm, Kirk, McCoy, Scotty and Uhura materialize aboard an Enterprise in a parallel universe. Here, the Federation has been replaced by the Empire and its inhabitants are violent and cruel. Members of the crew advance in rank by killing their superiors and Kirk is constantly a target. Their only hope is to artificially reproduce the effects of the storm to facilitate a return to their own universe. Spock also realizes that all is not as it should be and uses the Vulcan mind meld on Dr. McCoy to learn the truth.—garykmcd
- Kirk is negotiating with the Halkan people on the surface of a stormy planet. His landing party also includes Uhura, Scotty and McCoy. Spock is up on the bridge in charge of the ship temporarily. The Halkans are saying to Kirk that they cannot allow the Federation to mine on their planet for Dilithium crystals because thy fear the Enterprise would use the crystals for violent purposes. Kirk tries to explain that the Federation is peaceful. Spock calls Kirk and tells him that Kirk and the landing party had better get back to the ship before the storm gets too bad. But as they beam up, something happens, the landing party beams onto the transporter platform and their clothes are different, and there is Spock, with a BEARD.
This "Spock" says to the transporter operator "You were slow. Give me your agonizer." Spock takes the agonizer and tortures the crewman. Kirk is shocked. They soon find out that they have been transported to a mirror universe where everyone is a murderer and cruel, so that means the evil versions of themselves must be on the "good" Enterprise (which the counterparts are, but Spock spots them quickly and throws them in the brig before they can torture anyone). Meanwhile back on the ISS Enterprise (ISS stands for Imperial Star Ship. This is an evil empire ruled by cutthroats), Kirk must stall in following the orders to destroy the Halkan planet (by ordering Scotty to disable the phaser circuits. To Stall Kirk gives Halkans 12 hrs to comply with his orders), and this will arouse suspicion. On ISS Kirk finds out by researching the ship's computer that the ion storm readings can be created artificially to switch back the original mistakes in transportation.
Kirk goes to his cabin only to find a very beautiful woman waiting for him. She serves on the ship, and she is the girlfriend of the evil Kirk, but she doesn't know that this is the good Kirk. Kirk must keep her fooled so he kisses and hugs her, and she shows him the device which Kirk "stole" from an alien planet (really it was evil Kirk who stole it) (the device helps Evil Kirk kill anyone he wishes at the touch of a button). Jim Kirk is a good actor, so he romances this beautiful dark haired exotic type beauty, whose name is Marlena Moreau (BarBara Luna), in order to find out more information. She makes him promise to bring her with him when he seizes power of the Empire (Kirk's real plan is to get the hell out of this universe, but he doesn't tell her that).
Now Kirk assigns Scotty and McCoy to switch the circuits on the transporter so that they can beam back, but they have to distract evil Sulu, who is the security chief. Kirk assigns Uhura to distract Sulu, since he knows that Sulu likes her. Uhura tempts Sulu and distracts him, and once the silent alarm flashes, and Sulu didn't see it, then she slaps him. He gets very angry, but Uhura pulls out a knife and escapes. Meanwhile Spock has been spying on Captain Kirk, and before this, evil Chekov tried to kill him. Spock demands answers from good Kirk, and they have to knock him out, but McCoy insists on healing the wound that they were forced to give Spock.
Now evil Sulu and three red-shirts catch the entire landing party in the sickbay, and Sulu says "I will assassinate you, and everyone will move up one step in rank." Marlena is still in Kirk's bedroom, and she turns on the killing device and one by one kills the red-shirts. Kirk karate-chops Sulu, and the landing party runs to the transporter room. They don't have much time. Marlena is there and she is desperate. "Please take me with you." Kirk says no, we can't, it's fixed for four. She is upset and sad. the power is out. Spock comes in. He performed a mind meld on McCoy in Sickbay, and knows the whole story. He is not here to kill them, but to make sure they leave safely. Kirk has one minute to talk to Spock before they escape. "Mr Spock, consider this. Your evil empire is doomed to crumble. Find a way to spare the Halkans, don't destroy their planet, make the reason stick." Spock says "Captain Kirk, I shall consider it." Kirk leaves the alien device with Spock.
They beam back and everything is back to normal. Kirk is about to order the ship on its next mission, when suddenly, who is there, but Marlena Moreau, in a soft powder blue star-fleet uniform with black leggings, wearing her hair up this time. But it is not the evil Marlena, it is a good one, and Kirk smiles. Spock asks him if he knows her. He smiles and says "No, Mr Spock. I just thought I might like to get to know her... better."
