The original title was The Good, the Bad and the Klingon.
Brent Spiner had a rare treat getting to play other characters beyond his understated Data character. He rarely got to do that in this series. He has stated at many convention appearances that his android character was very easy to play and he actually enjoyed playing evil Lore much more.
When playing Durango, Marina Sirtis tried to blow smoke rings but Michael Dorn cut her off and said "Stop it! Don't be funnier than me, this is my show!" That may explain why Deanna blows smoke in his face instead.
The production staff had very little time to make this episode. Patrick Stewart asked that all of the sets be set up at night, so they could catch every portion of daylight shooting.
Patrick Stewart, out of excitement to direct this episode, got sunburn after forgetting to put on sunblock while shooting the outdoor scenes.
