The Offspring (1990) and "Allegiance," with their minimal sets, were written in part to balance the series' budget after Yesterday's Enterprise (1990).
Captain Picard's quarters are seen to be on deck 9, room 3601.
The inspiration for "Allegiance" appears to have been Rod Serling's teleplay Five Characters in Search of an Exit (1961).
The song in which Picard's replica leads the crew is "Heart Of Oak". This traditional British song is the official march of their Royal Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy, and the Royal New Zealand Navy. Its original lyrics are as follows: Come cheer up, my lads; 'tis to glory we steer, To add something more to this wonderful year; To honour we call you, as free men, not slaves, For who are so free as the sons of the waves? Chorus: Heart of oak are our ships, heart of oak are our men We always are ready; steady boys, steady. We'll fight and we'll conquer again and again. The song was written in 1760 by David Garrick, an English actor, for one of his Drury Lane productions. Note that LeVar Burton deliberately flubs the line "To honor we call you- as free men, not -blah-" as he played Kunta Kinte in Roots Part I (1977).
