- La Forge gets left behind on a storm-plagued planet when the rest of his team encounters a Romulan warrior.
- Responding to an unidentified distress signal from the inhospitable planet Galorndon Core, deep in Federation space, a landing party finds a crashed Romulan vessel and brings in one badly wounded survivor, but Geordi La Forge, who fell in a deep crevice, failed to beam back up during a storm, and non-cranial brain injury to the Romulan suggests he too is in danger of magnetic radiation. Data intercepts a Romulan ship signal announcing it will pass the neutral zone in six hours; Picard forbids that but must promise to deliver the wounded, after recovering Geordi. Despite the Romulan's assurance, Geordi is surprised by an armed other Romulan survivor and is blinded by the radiation; they should collaborate to survive. Klingon Lt. - While scouting a storm-ravaged planet near the Neutral Zone, an away team from the Enterprise encounters a crashed Romulan shuttle. A wounded survivor is beamed back to the ship, while Geordi is trapped on the planet with the shuttle's other occupant.—crouchbk
- An Enterprise away team finds itself on a planet with a hostile environment. The time they can spend there is limited but they come across a crashed Romulan vessel with a survivor in need of medical attention. When the time comes to beam aboard the Enterprise, they are unable to locate Geordi La Forge who has suffered a fall. He's uninjured but is soon taken prisoner by a second Romulan officer. With the climatic conditions on the planet, Geordi is soon blind as well when his visor fails. On board the Enterprise, Dr. Crusher tries to save the injured Romulan but the only possible genetic donor is Lt. Worf, whose parents were killed by Romulans, and he flatly refuses to do so. It all gets very complicated for Captain Picard when they discover that a Romulan vessel is about to breach the Neutral Zone to rescue their men.—garykmcd
- Responding to an unidentified distress signal from the inhospitable planet Galorndon Core, deep in Federation space, a landing party (Worf, Riker and Geordi) finds a crashed Romulan vessel and brings in one badly wounded survivor. Geordi La Forge, who fell in a deep crevice, failed to beam back up during a storm. The party had a brief beam up window due to the storm, and hence Riker and Worf decided to leave without Geordi.. Non-cranial brain injury to the Romulan suggests he too is in danger of magnetic radiation. Picard is worried that this might be a new Romulan offensive inside Federation territory.
Data intercepts a Romulan ship signal announcing it will pass the neutral zone in six hours to reach Golorndon Core; Picard forbids the entering of federation space by a Romulan Spaceship by calling Commander Tomalak (Andreas Katsulas). But he must promise to deliver the wounded, after recovering Geordi. Tomalak claims that the Romulan ship on Galorndon had a navigation issue, but it was 0.5 light years off course, so this theory is not feasible. Riker and Worf are against handing over the Romulan to Tomalak. Geordi fashions some tools using his phaser and the metal ore he finds inside the crevice and manages to climb out.
Despite Tomalak's assurance that there is no other Romulan on Galorndon Core, Geordi is surprised by an armed other Romulan survivor Centurian Bochra (John Snyder) and is blinded by the radiation. Geordi loses his sight to the magnetic radiation, as his visor cannot operate in the electromagnetic soup; Geordi and Bochra need to collaborate to survive. Wesley has improvised a neutrino beam signal and sent it to the surface via a probe. If Geordi can find the beam, he can communicate with the Enterprise. He can see the beam, but Bochra is not allowing him to go there. Klingon Lt. Worf proves the only possible blood donor to save the captive, but objects to helping the species which killed his parents. Riker asks Worf not to blame all Romulans for the death of his parents.
Meanwhile Tomalak has reached the Neutral zone and wants to come to Galorndon to pick his officer. Again, Picard refuses and says he will come to the Neutral zone once he finds his own officer. Tomalak is not impressed that Picard won't even allow a mission of mercy.
Bochra is convinced that they need to collaborate, and they start moving towards the beam. But then Bochra gets a high fever and loses his legs. He suggests that Geordi pairs his visor with the Tricorder to find the neutrino beam. Tomalak crosses the Neutral zone and heads towards the planet. Picard orders Red Alert. Picard speaks to Worf to get him to agree for the blood transfusion. Worf would do it if he is ordered, but he talks to the Romulan prisoner who says he would rather die than have Klingon filth inside him. Worf refuses and the Romulan dies. Picard is afraid that Tomalak will now have an excuse to start an incident.
Tomalak reaches Galorndon Core and is informed that his officer has died. He arms his phasers and Enterprise raises shields. That's when Geordi reaches the Neutrino beam with Bochra and they alert the Enterprise. Meanwhile Data informs Picard that they have a 3-minute window between the magnetic storms to beam up the 2 life forms they are picking up. They guess the 2nd one has to be another Romulan Picard informs of the same to Tomalak and signals his intention to lower the shields to beam the survivors up. They beam the survivors up. The Romulan confirms to Tomalak that Geordi saved his life. Tomalak agrees to be escorted to the Neutral zone with his officer.
