When Virgil Hawkins is trying on different superhero costumes to make his official Static costume, he briefly wears the costume of Black Vulcan (another black superhero with electricity powers) from Super Friends (1973). Richie rejects this costume telling Virgil, he looks like a battery commercial.
This episode begins with camera show of various parts of Dakota, one of which is the Hawkins' residence which is depicted as an apartment. However, subsequent episodes them residing in a townhouse.
Despite subsequent episodes showing many of the teenagers affected by the Big Bang, some teenagers like Wade and Duke, along with members of their gang and the three teen bullies who made up Francis' gang never appeared again in the series leaving their fates unknown. It is possible that they managed to escape from the docks, but it could also be possible that they mutated or died (the latter happened to a lot of the teens in the original Milestone comics and is the most likely scenario).
This episode is based on "Static" issue #2 which featured the origin story of how Virgil Hawkins became Static.
