Very funny and sad, it's a lovely episode.

Daphne Tomlin turns up on the doorstep, heavily pregnant, she claims that Harold's the father, the only trouble is, neither Harold nor Daphne can remember the encounter.

It's a funny watch, from the very off where we have a tantalised Albert joyfully reading through his son's diary, and sniping, through to the ending. They build it right up, and if course add in a touch of sadness, as always it's that glorious mix of humour and sadness that makes it so good.

Ann Beach is lovely here as Daphne, a true comedy pedigree, this was an early role for her, but she would of course be best known for playing it's only Sonya in Fresh Fields. Daphne is such a sweet girl, she even manages to win over old misery guts.

Enjoyed it, 8/10.

Steptoe and Son - and Son!

A nicely crafted episode with a touch of pathos and melancholy. An heavily pregnant lady called Daphne is looking for Harold. Albert taking one look at her tummy tells that he might have gone off to Australia.

When she does see Harold it turns out that they might at a party and got a bit too close. Harold cannot remember a thing as he was drunk at the time and thought he passed out.

However he is willing to do the right thing by the child which also includes marrying her. Harold rather likes the idea of getting married and having a baby at the same time.

As always there is a sting in the tail, one of Harold's friends turns up who took him to the party and it seems that he might be the father.

It is left to Albert to console a disappointed Harold. Not the funniest episode, although both father and son make baby jokes and Harold is certain the baby will be a boy.
