You dirty old man!
Sleepin_Dragon6 August 2019
Never is the title of you dirty old man more deserved then in this episode. It's hard to believe nowadays that many people used to bath this way, but it's the manner in which he bathes, complete with pickled onions, that's particularly dirty.

The two characters are polar opposites, despite being father and son, Albert a bit common, Harold with ideas. The thought of walking into someone's living room, and seeing someone in a tin bath, hard to imagine.

Harold is a little selfish once again, as he moves his old dad into the cupboard under the stairs. Some great lines, including Albert's retaliation at being moved, and a funny scene where Harold's second date discovers the old man.

Yootha Joyce, very funny as Delilah, she would appear in two more.

Very funny. 8/10

The Bath

As Harold prepares for a date with Delilah. (Yootha Joyce.) He cannot spruce himself as dad Albert is monopolising the tin bath in the middle of the living room.

He sits there with his food and pickled onions, using the bath water to clean his cutlery. He even watches television, with scented salts as Harold wants him get a move on.

The date with Delilah turns out to be disaster. She falls in the tin bath as it was covered with a cloth and she thought it was a chair.

Enough is enough. Harold installs a proper bathtub. Only problem is there is no room for a fitted bathtub in the house.

So Harold places the bathtub in Albert's bedroom. Albert is shifted to under the stairs, Harry Potter style.

Now I wonder if Harold has taken into account whether the floorboards could hold the weight!

A funny episode, Albert seems to be very much at home in his tin bath. The writes also make a point about how many households in Britain did not have proper baths.
