If ever we were in any doubt as to how greedy and selfish old man Steptoe was, this one perfectly shows what a monster he really was. Albert strikes lucky with his premium bonds, and lands a £1000 win, nice money by today's standards, but a fortune in 1964.
Refusing to share with his hard working son, Albert goes on a spending spree, buying suits, and meeting a new wife.
It's very bittersweet, the laughs are pretty much masked by the level of loathing between the characters, even the way Harold proves the intentions of Albert's betrothed is quite nasty.
June Whitfield is wonderful as the fiancée, her delivery was excellent.
Enough laughs, but it's the scathing resentment between the two leads that's enjoyable to watch.
