"Whatever happened to the honest villain?"

Possibly my favourite episode from the excellent second series, 'Stay Lucky Eh?' boasts a fine cast including Peter Vaughan, Alun Armstrong, Ken Hutchinson, Michael Ripper, and John Challis, and an intriguing story about a pet shop owner who dons a disguise and robs other thieves at gunpoint. The final showdown suitably takes place in a rundown old theatre, and Haskins delivers one of the best lines in the show's history as the final credits roll.

Peter Vaughan's character Tony Kirby displays an understated menace in this one, and it's no surprise that the makers of Porridge cast him in the part of Harry Grout on the strength of this performance.

A great little episode

A really nice episode, this one, with excellent supporting cast members including both young 'uns and veterans. Michael Ripper is a particular delight and Peter Vaughn as imposing as ever, while we get John Challis and Alun Armstrong in smaller roles. The plot, in which robbers find themselves at the mercy of other robbers, is fresh and well-handled.

Great episode of a great series. It was great to see villains being given some of their own medicine! I'll leave it there but what a great episode

Warning: Spoilers
2 crooks arrive at their hideout only to be robbed themsleves. Thus starts one of the best episodes of The Sweeney. Thaw and Waterman give their usual top drawer performance. The guest stars include Peter Vaughn playing a crime boss who is pretty much like his Harry Grout character from Porridge only played in a serious context. The episode ends with a showdown in a theatre. Highly recommend.

Stay Lucky Eh?

There are some good actors in this episode. Ken Hutchison, Alun Armstrong, Peter Vaughan and John Challis.

You also see Haskins getting on in some action as he goes after the bad guys with a gun.

Tyson and Jenner do a impressive job robbing a safe with the latest security system. Only to find themselves being robbed by a mysterious intruder who shot Jenner in the leg.

Tony Kirby is the gangster who bankrolled the job and is not impressed that the cash from the robbery has gone missing.

Regan and Carter are stuck at first as to who did the safe job. They are not the usual guys on their patch. Regan also gets a clue as to who leaked the information to this mystery man.

A decent enough thriller mainly because of the cast. However Kirby came across as someone who was slow on the uptake. With one of his robbers shot, surely he knew there was a usurper in town?
