The end of the road for Eric and Hat
Yonilikka-222 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
'Sykes' ground to a halt with this rather sad final episode.

Eric and Hat go to the B.B.C. T.V. Centre ( and how nostalgic one is on seeing the old place again ) to collect a clock as a 'thank you' for notching up twenty years of their sitcom. Nothing much of consequence happens; they run into Les Dawson ( who gives us a chunk of his stage-act before wandering off ), meet Henry McGee as a producer ( called 'Roger Relay' in honour of their real-life producer Roger Race ), and encounter Hugh Burden as a befuddled Head of Light Entertainment ( whom one suspects was based on the late Bill Cotton Jr. ) who mistakes Eric for Eric Morecambe, announces a new idea for a family game-show to be called 'The Generating Game', and recreates I.T.M.A. characters.

This is Eric having a go at the B.B.C. itself and the bitterness of the comedy is not what we're used to from him. Destroying the illusion by stating that he and Hat were acting in a sitcom was not a good way to end the show.

Funniest moment - the clips from earlier episodes, such as 'Stranger' ( there is poignancy to the clip. Peter Sellers passed away soon after this episode was shown ), 'Sykes And A Log Cabin', 'Sykes And A Bath', and 'Holiday In Bogsea'. These show Eric and Hat at their best, which unfortunately they are not in the rest of the programme.
