Serial murders

Hooker's investigation into a series of gristly murders by a pair of religious crazies is accompanied by Sergeant Leigh Stockwell, a close, old friend, whom is somewhat his protégée. But Stacy becomes suspicious that Leigh is using cocaine, an addiction which not only jeopardises the case and Leigh's job, but also Hooker's life...

An excellent performance by Molly Cheek as an ambitious police lady using cocaine to give her that buzz, but she gets double visions and dizzy spells. Hooker thinks she's not eating or sleeping, but when he finds out the truth he's typically stern yet caring. The ending is quite harrowing as it leaves it up in the air whether she stops taking the drug or not. That's followed by William Shatner talking. A strong anti-drug message overrides the two barmy killers on their murderous spree storyline.

Warning: Spoilers
Lenny and Squiggly, two wacko faux religious serial killers with bad fake southern accents, made this episode border on the ridiculous. Even back in 1985 Hollywood's portrayal of Christians, or should I say fake Christians, was as deranged psychos.

It's amazing how almost every criminal on this show either had New York accents or southern (usually bad) accents.

The storyline of the protege of Hooker's cocaine addiction was interesting but since each episode is a stand alone it's likely we'll never see her again.

I enjoy the show but I think by the end of season 4 the writers were running out of ideas.
