Harvey Logan (1867-1904) took the name "Kid Curry" from his friend "Flat Nose" Curry. He rode with several outlaw gangs, including "Black Jack" Ketchum and Butch Cassidy. In 1902, he was captured in a pool hall, tried for robbery, and sentenced to 20 years hard labor. He escaped in 1903, and was tracked down by a posse in Parachute, CO one year later; he shot himself in the head to avoid capture. There were rumors that he actually escaped and went to South America with Butch and Sundance. He is in the famous photo of the Wild Bunch gang, standing with his left hand on Butch Cassidy's right shoulder.
The plot of this episode - Kid Curry shoots two policemen in a pool hall - was based on a combination of two actual events in Curry's life. In 1901 in Knoxville, Tennessee Curry shot and killed two policemen who attempted to apprehend him, William Dinwiddie and Robert Saylor. One year later Curry was captured after a lengthy physical fight in a pool hall, also in Knoxville. He was tried for the murders of Dinwiddie and Saylor, but facts in the murder of the two policemen were not definite and no witnesses would testify. Instead, Curry was convicted of robbery, although this fact is in dispute as some sources say the conviction was related to forgery and passing stolen banknotes. He nevertheless received a 20 year prison sentence but escaped 7 months later to continue his career as an outlaw.
