Our First Look At 'Simka'
ccthemovieman-16 June 2010
Carol Kane makes her debut as Latka's girlfriend......well, sort of. It looks like romance but "Simka Dahblitz," a girl from the "mountains" of her and Latka's unnamed country, calls it off because of Latka's bias against those people. Where they come from, the Flatlanders look down on the Mountain People. Latka explains, "my parents would be happier if I married a pig, than a mountain girl." Simka comes to realize she would never get the respect she deserves from Latka, and goes off and finds another boyfriend. Latka realizes this is the girl for him but is heartbroken. Will he get her back? Sure.....but not in this episode.....or not even the rest of Season Two! This episode aired on Jan . 15, 1980 and Carol Kane's character didn't return until Feb. 4, 1982. That's a shame because she added a lot to the already-popular show.

Anyway, "Louie" (Danny DeVito) has the majority of funny lines in this interesting episode, which isn't upsetting to most of us seeing this on DVD because at least we know Kane will be back.

Like so many Taxi episodes, especially in the first few years when some characters introduced, the show is comedic up to the last 5-10 minutes when it ends on a dramatic note.
